Zyprexa
Explanation / definition
Zyprexa® belongs to the group of atypical neuroleptics. In addition to a good antipsychotic effect, which is particularly used in therapy for mania, it has a relatively low spectrum of side effects.

Zyprexa® is used as drug therapy for various psychiatric illnesses.
Areas of application are:
- schizophrenia
- mania
- Bipolar Disorders (Prophylaxis)

effect
Antipsychotics are drugs that focus on treating psychotic symptoms. The main mechanism lies in the reduction in the activity of the neurotransmitter dopamine brain.
For those interested: Primarily, olanzapine blocks 5-HT2, D1-5 and mACh receptors
dosage
Zyprexa® is available as a tablet, as an orodispersible tablet and as an IM. Ampoule.
Tablets are available in doses of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg and 20 mg.
Orodispersible tablets are available in doses of 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg and 20 mg.
Ampoules are available in a dosage of 10 mg
side effect
Only those are listed very frequent (> 10%) to frequent (1-10%) Side effects; Occasional, rare or very rare side effects are not listed !:
- Increasing appetite with weight gain (obesity) is the most common NW. The weight gain is usually limited and usually does not lead to obesity.
- Increase in blood sugar level (diabetes mellitus)
- dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation (constipation)
- Temporary increase in liver values (transaminases)
- Rare: extrapyramidal disorders
