The temporal muscle is the strongest jaw closers of the masticatory muscles. This Skeletal muscle works together with the Masseter muscle and the inner wing muscle, to the jaw to close and also pushes it backwards (so-called Retrusion movement).

Approach: Lower jaw (Mandibular coronoid process)
Origin: Temporal fossa (lateral surface on the skull)
Innervation: Nervi temporales profundi from the Mandibular nerve
