Symptoms
Usually there is the person concerned no stress. This means that the odor nuisance for the environment is not perceived by the sick person or only to a lesser extent.
A Stinky foot (Pes olens) is initially not a disease of its own. However, they provide an ideal basis for fungal diseases that the Spaces between the toes (Interdigital space), but also the nail (Nail mycosis).
A Skin fungus or Nail fungus can constitute the basis for further illnesses. For example, injuries to the skin caused by the fungus - bacteria penetrate into the subcutaneous tissue and cause inflammation of the lymphatic system (phlegmon / Erysipelas) trigger.
root cause
The warm and humid environment of the feet gives bacteria an excellent breeding ground. During their proliferation, they metabolize (process) the secretion of sweat, as do naturally occurring skin substances. This creates the unmistakable smell of the stinky foot (sweaty foot).
diagnosis
Diagnosing stinky feet is usually very easy as the smell is pioneering. If other reasons for the odor development are not possible, further investigations are not necessary.
Pathological changes cannot be detected in an X-ray or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). The laboratory values in the blood count are usually normal.
therapy
Therapy is difficult as long as the "sick person" is not aware of the consequences for his or her social environment.
General general hygiene advice should be given if the lack of hygiene is the cause of the odor.
Normally, stinky feet (sweaty feet) can be completely eliminated by intensive hydrotherapy (bathing the feet in water).
Open shoes should be worn, especially during the warm summer months. Daily washing of the feet is essential for lasting therapy success. The socks must also be changed daily. Footwear that has become wet due to sweaty feet must be stored in such a way that it can dry quickly.
In the case of a particularly stubborn form of stinky foot, a so-called stinky foot recurrence, powders are available in pharmacies that reduce sweating (perspiration) of the feet.
Furthermore, an antibacterial and antifungal (against athlete's foot) foot spray (e.g. Efasit foot spray) can help eliminate odor-causing bacteria.
In addition, new developments such as socks with incorporated silver threads should kill bacteria and thereby prevent the smell.
forecast
With regular use of the above-mentioned therapeutic measures, a complete healing of the stinky foot (Pes olens) can be expected. Permanent damage is not to be expected.
