Physiotherapy for breast cancer
The medical part of the breast cancer disease (Breast cancer) can be found under the topic of breast cancer and breast cancer therapy.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in Germany. Every 7th woman is expected to develop breast cancer at some point in her life. The 5-year survival rate is over 70%, with the therapy methods being selected as individually as possible in consultation with the affected patients.
In most cases, a surgical procedure is of varying extent depending on the tumor stage, as well as radiation, hormone and / or chemotherapy (see also Chemotherapy for breast cancer). In particular, after surgery and radiation therapy, individual physiotherapeutic treatment and / or group treatment based on sports therapy is indicated in rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation after the operation takes place in the medical, psychosocial and professional areas.
Breast cancer has extensive physical, psychological and social consequences for the women affected, which depend in particular on the extent of the therapy carried out and / or planned and the prognosis. The surgical procedures required depend on the tumor stage and lymph node involvement. The spectrum ranges from a breast-conserving, minimally invasive procedure to a complete removal of the breast, including the axillary lymph nodes. As a rule, breast-conserving therapy with removal of the tumor is possible in approx. 80%.
