Correction of a flat foot
Above all a acquired Flat feet often do not require therapy as long as there are no symptoms. For children and adolescents, conservative treatment methods are initially sought.
This includes physiotherapy, strengthening the muscles, walking barefoot and soft shoe soles. In adults too, conservative therapy options are initially used.
If the physiotherapy is not enough, orthopedic insoles are adjusted.

In some cases, the flat foot needs to be corrected surgically.
This is especially the case congenital malpositions of the foot is recommended in early childhood. This prevents affected children from having problems walking. If the malalignment of the congenital flat foot is corrected later, lengthy follow-up treatments are necessary. These include plastering systems, inner shoes, secondary storage trays and shoe insoles. If the growth is complete and the deformity is still present, it can be surgically again by partially stiffening the joint (Arthrodesis) can be post-treated.

Summary
The foot malposition in the form of a flat foot can be acquired or congenital.
While the congenital, familial form is rather rare, the acquired malalignment occurs relatively frequently. The main reasons for this are standing activities, incorrect footwear and being overweight.
Congenital malpositions are relatively difficult to detect, especially in infancy, and must therefore be precisely clarified in the routine examination. These misalignments often occur in families and are therefore already known. Since congenital malpositions can be treated surgically, especially in early childhood, early diagnosis is important.
In addition, an untreated congenital flat foot can impair the child's later ability to walk. This is another reason why the therapy should take place in the first year of life if possible.
An acquired flat foot only requires therapy if there are symptoms.
These are rare, but should they occur, foot muscle training and shoe insoles can effectively treat flat feet. The effective and good treatment options for flat feet result in a very good prognosis and hardly any restrictions in the ability of affected patients to walk.
